MCP registry
Also called: server registry, server directory
A catalog of MCP servers that clients or users browse to discover and install integrations.
As the ecosystem grew, directories appeared — official and third-party — listing available MCP servers with install instructions. Some clients pull from a registry directly so users can add a server with one click.
Why it matters
A registry is a software supply chain. Whoever controls a listing controls what code users install and what endpoint their client trusts. Registries with weak identity verification, mutable listings, or no review invite typosquatting, ownership hijacking, and post-install rug pulls. "I installed it from the official list" is not the same as "it is safe."
